Frequently asked questions

  • Early childhood intervention is based on the understanding that the early years of a child's life provide a critical window of opportunity for brain development and learning.

By providing timely and appropriate support, early intervention can significantly improve outcomes for children and set them on a positive trajectory for their future development and educational success.

The goal of early childhood intervention is to identify and address any developmental, learning, or behavioural challenges as early as possible, ideally during the first few years of a child's life. This intervention may involve a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including early childhood educators, paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers.

Research confirms that the sooner you seek support, the better the outcomes for your child and your family.

  • Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is an approach to therapy that recognises and values the diversity of neurocognitive functioning in individuals. It embraces the idea that neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other conditions, are simply natural variations of the human brain rather than deficits or disorders that need to be fixed or normalised.

Our focus is on understanding and appreciating the unique strengths, abilities, and perspectives of neurodivergent individuals. Hello Rainbow therapists work collaboratively with their clients to identify and build upon their strengths while providing practical strategies and accommodations to navigate challenges.

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is not a specific set of interventions or things the therapist says or does in their sessions. Rather, it is an approach to treatment and overarching philosophy that impacts how the therapist views their client and the client’s experience.

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy aims to create an inclusive and accepting environment where neurodivergent individuals can explore their identities, build upon their skills, and thrive in a society that celebrates diversity.

It promotes a shift from a deficit-based perspective to a strength-based approach, fostering empowerment and well-being.

  • Yes. Early childhood intervention services are in high demand and while we’d like to accommodate everyone immediately, it’s sometimes not possible.

Please contact us to discuss our current wait timeframes.

  • Therapy at home offers a glimpse into your child’s everyday life, and allows your therapist to build strategies into your daily routines. It’s also a great place to start, because your child is comfortable at home, with their stuff! Building a rapport with your child is our first goal, and what better way to do this than when they’re at their most relaxed and ready to engage.

We may look to in-clinic services in the Lake Macquarie region in future.

  • Yes. We currently accept NDIS participants that are self managed or plan managed.

  • If you are paying for therapy services privately (eg not with NDIS funding), speak to your GP about the Chronic Disease Management Plan.

This plan entitles you to five rebated sessions per calendar year for selected allied health services, including speech and occupational therapy.

If you would like to use a CDM plan, please provide us with a copy of the plan so that we can issue you with the appropriate invoices and receipts. You can then claim your rebate with Medicare. Please note we are not able to process the rebate for you.
